Rock 'n' Roll Marathon Coming June 1

The Rock 'n' Roll Marathon has become somewhat of a San Diego tradition, as runners from around the globe race through some of the most scenic areas of the city. One of the main attractions of the marathon are the 26 stages where 45 bands will perform throughout the course of the day. Legendary vocalist Pat Benatar will perform in the post race concert at Qualcomm Stadium at 8:00 PM.

Not everyone is excited about the Rock 'n' Roll Marathon, however. Community activist Jane Q. Doe shared her views at a town council meeting on May 16:

To accommodate this marathon, the city of San Diego closes many major roadways. This leads to increased congestion and traffic on the city's other open roads. Statistics show that travel time increases by 46% the day of the marathon; moreover, automobile accidents also increase a whopping 13% the day of the marathon. Not to mention the noise. Kids, these days, and that horrid "rock" music.

Midway through her tirade, Ms. Doe was shouted down by a chorus of boos and heckles from the audience on hand (as well as from the city council members themselves, one of whom referred to Ms. Doe as an "old ninny").
